Local server (npx)

Run the FynePDF MCP server on your computer with npx, so assistants can upload your local files and save results to your Downloads folder.

A remote server can't see the files on your computer. @fynepdf/mcp runs on your machine over stdio, passes every tool through to https://api.fynepdf.com/mcp with your API key, and adds two tools of its own:

  • upload_local_file: sends a file on this computer to FynePDF and returns its file_id.
  • download_file: saves a result to your Downloads folder, or a folder or path you name. It never replaces an existing file unless asked to.

Use it when the files are on your computer, when your client only runs local servers, or when you'd rather pay with API credits than your fynepdf.com plan. Otherwise the remote server needs no key at all.

Set it up

Create an API key: a test key is free (results are watermarked), a live key gets 250 free credits a month. Then add the server to your client's config. Claude Desktop (claude_desktop_config.json), Cursor (.cursor/mcp.json), Windsurf, Cline and most others take this:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "fynepdf": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@fynepdf/mcp"],
      "env": { "FYNEPDF_API_KEY": "fyne_live_…" }
    }
  }
}

Claude Code:

claude mcp add fynepdf --env FYNEPDF_API_KEY=fyne_live_… -- npx -y @fynepdf/mcp

It needs Node.js 20 or newer.

Try it

  • "Compress ~/Documents/report.pdf to under 5 MB and save it next to the original."
  • "Merge ~/Desktop/contract.pdf and ~/Desktop/annex.pdf, then save the result."
  • "Turn ~/Desktop/statement.pdf into a spreadsheet."

Settings

VariableWhat it does
FYNEPDF_API_KEYRequired. A live or test key.
FYNEPDF_DOWNLOAD_DIRWhere download_file saves by default: your Downloads folder, or your home folder if there's none.

Your key is sent only to api.fynepdf.com; uploads over 25 MB and all downloads go straight to storage through signed links. Results are deleted after 24 hours unless you save them to your Library.
